Ultimate Travel Secrets

Nashville Mural

Ever wondered where Nashville locals go and what they do?  Every place I travel, people ask me where I’m from.  And every time I say “Nashville” they always reply with one of two answers.  Either it’s, “Oooh, we love Nashville!” or it’s “Nashville is on my Bucket List!”

Being a Nashville local is a special thing.  Maybe that’s why, as of this writing, 82 people per day are moving here.

What?!

I know, I think it’s crazy too!

Even though I travel a lot these days, Nashville has been my home base for the last 30 years (wow, how has it been that long?!) and now when people ask me where I’m from, I proudly claim Nashville! I absolutely love being a Nashville local and one of my passions is sharing my city and the fun things to do here with people I meet!

You may or may not know it, but I grew up moving from place to place all over the world. From Spain to Virginia to Maryland to Florida and then to jolly old England! Living overseas was a wonderful experience and it was great exposure to see the way other people lived but the one downside was I never really had a hometown. So when I moved to Nashville for college, I knew it would be home for awhile.

Over the years, there have been opportunities in other cities. And I have considered them seriously. But when it comes down to it, one of my key phrases says it all: “We have everything but the beach here…and I can drive there in 6 hours! So why would I move?”

Exactly. Nashville is my hometown and I pretty much love all aspects of living here…the music, the history, the people, the kindness, the growth (but not THIS fast!) and especially the food and hospitality!

People say “Hey” when you walk in the door and “Thank y’all for coming” when you leave ~ whether you buy anything or not. I hope that hospitality and friendliness is something that will always remain our biggest Nashville tradition!

Hey Y'all Mug

This mug makes me smile so much!

What should you do when you come to nashville?

People come here for all kinds of different reasons. Whether it’s for a Nashville vacation, a convention, a bachelor or bachelorette weekend, there’s always an overwhelming feeling that leads to the question: “What do we do?” (well, besides the obvious of boot scootin’ boogie and bar hopping in the honky tonks down Broadway and 2nd Avenue!)

There are an incredible amount of things to do here…it can be pretty overwhelming when looking at things to do in Nashville.  A lot of it can feel (and is) touristy. Of course, touristy is okay for some of the time spent here.

But now I’m talking to those of you who want to experience more of the “real” Nashville…not just the tourist things, but the true “heart and soul” of Nashville, as I like to call it.

Let me ask you a question.

When you travel, do you like getting recommendations from locals? Aren’t they the absolute best spots ever?!

With that in mind, I began thinking of a way to help people navigate the best parts of Nashville: the must see tourist things and some local places that would give visitors a deeper connection with the this great city and make their time here even more special!

How does that sound? Cool?

I’m going to let you in on this secret project I’ve been working on!
